The company Husi is a major meat supplier to many of the popular food chains like McDonalds in China. Recently the processing plant's meat has been revealed to be "tainted" or treated without care. It had been dropped on the ground, handled with bare hands and had been repackaged with a new expiration date after it had expired. Forged production dates had also been discovered.

Chang Guann Co: tainted oil scandal
A company in Taiwan was found to be selling industrial oil as a foodstuff to companies including Starbucks and 7-Eleven. The imported oil was labeled for human consumption. The oil is claimed to be a "combination of recycled kitchen waste oil and lard," the company claims that they were unaware that the oil had not been safe for consumption. Hundreds of products have been recalled or banned as a result and stores caught selling the products would be fined 100,000 U.S. dollars.

Ch. 1 vocab
Monopolistic competition is a market or industry characterized by numerous sellers trying to differentiate their products from those of their competitors. That type of competition is seen in everyday life where you may waver towards something because of how it is advertised or because it is the "mainstream" brand to go with. This could be applied to things like different types of smartphones.
